The subcapsular cortical surface of the pale, shrunken kidney shows irregular, coarse, pit-like and U-shaped depressed scars distributed over the surface. Cut surface shows thinning of cortex and blurring of corticomedullary junction. The scars are often positioned over blunted and dilated calyces (not seen here). The calyces and renal pelvis are not dilated. No hyperaemia or suppuration is seen.
