77 year old diabetic woman with cough productive of yellowish sputum, fever and increasing breathlessness for a couple of weeks following a bout of flu.
The lungs are congested and heavy and show multiple, diffusely scattered, pale granular areas of consolidation-suppuration centred around small bronchial structures. Usually there is a tendency to gravitate to the lower lobes. The bronchial tree is not dilated. No gross abscess or pleural involvement is seen.
