27 year old woman who was in early pregnancy was admitted with acute onset of right lower abdominal pain but no fever, nausea or vomiting. She had experienced vaginal bleeding some days ago.
The mid-segment of the fallopian tube is grossly distended by the presence of a gestational sac containing a foetus and placental tissue. There is haemorrhage into the lumen and fallopian tube wall with blood clots.
The specimen demonstrated here shows no evidence of rupture.
