38 year old woman with repeated episodes of fever associated with bilateral pelvic pain.
Both ovaries and fallopian tubes are involved by a chronic suppurative inflammatory process and are adherent to each other. The ovaries have been replaced by large, thick-walled abscess cavities with necrotic purulent slough, oedema, congestion and haemorrhage. The tubes are tortuous and kinked with thickened, inflamed walls.
An intramural leiomyoma is noted in the corpus uteri.
